Ban to take effect in December
Canada has taken a stand against testing cosmetics on animals.
Earlier today, Health Minister Jean-Yves DuClos announced a ban on cosmetic animal testing, which will take effect in December.
Bill C-47 was enacted last week, and it prohibits companies from selling products like makeup, nail polish, perfume and skin cream that have been tested on animals.
The bill also includes changes to the Food and Drug Act.
However, the ban does not apply to items that were previously tested on animals.
