Humane Society caring for "Baloo"
A dog that was found near the Niagara River earlier this month is up for adoption.
On December 1st, Niagara Parks Police found the animal while patrolling near Portage Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The dog was spotted running along the escarpment and was believed to be in a state of panic.
Despite assistance from Niagara Helicopters and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire Department, the owner has not yet been found.
The dog was taken to Lincoln County Humane Society, and was named Baloo.
Executive Director Kevin Strooband says while Baloo needs some training, he thinks the dog would make a great companion for the right owner.
"I think unfortunately, he was a little neglected when we got him, but I think he's smart enough and nice enough that he's going to respond well to training, and he's going to be a great family pet."
The shelter says he is about a year old, and is believed to be a standard poodle-mix.
