Fireworks Prohibited in St. Catharines For Remainder of the Year

Fireworks permitted on Victoria Day and Canada Day.

The St. Catharines Fire Service is reminding businesses and residents that it's now illegal to sell or set off consumer fireworks for the rest of 2022.

Fireworks were permitted on private property on Victoria Day and Canada Day, as well as the day before and the day after the holiday each year.

The St. Catharines Fire Service says it has received numerous complaints about fireworks over the last month.

"Our main concern here is the safety of our residents, beyond the issues of noise complaints impacting neighbours and pets. When people are setting fireworks off, embers and remnants of the fireworks are spreading onto their neighbours’ properties. The embers floating around have damaged roofs and can easily cause a fire," said Fire Chief Dave Upper.

Business owners currently selling fireworks face fines by fire prevention inspectors, and property owners lighting off fireworks illegally could also be ticketed.

To report unsafe use of fireworks or vendors selling fireworks without a permit, call St. Catharines Fire Services at 905.684.4311.
