Floating Dock Idea Sinks at Council

Niagara-on-the-Lake staff asked to look at other options for Riverbeach Park area, although council did consider floating option

It's back to the drawing board for Niagara on the Lake town staff over installation of a floating dock at Riverbeach Park.

After reviewing the idea of putting one near Melville Dock, council decided to hear what other ideas there are.

Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa tells us there used to be a floating dock attached to the main, fixed dock.  "But that was a pretty serious piece of equipment, and it was not owned by the town, it was owned by the tenant in the past.  So, staff brought back what they thought might be something council might be interested in, but it's wasn't exactly what council was looking for."

At this point, he can't give a price or timeline of future potential options.

He also addressed concerns about a current in the area, saying he's been boating in that area for over 25 years.

"I'm on that water almost every day, and my kids teach junior sailing, 25 feet away from where that town dock is.  They teach 20 to 50 junior sailors every day in the summer, right there... there's no current."

City staff agreed with the Lord Mayor on that concern during its council meeting.
