Ford Government To Ease the Pain at the Pumps

Premier will make good on old campaign promise

It's official the Ford government is cutting the gas tax to give motorists some relief at the pumps.

In a release the Ford Tories say they will  introduce legislation,  that would, if passed, cut the gas tax by 5.7 cents per litre and the fuel tax by 5.3 cents per litre for six months beginning July 1st.

The government says the move coupled with the elimination of licence plate renewal fees will save the average household about $465 this year.

The tax cut will start July 1st and run until December 31st.

The gas tax rate would be cut from 14.7 cents per litre to 9 cents per litre and the fuel tax rate, which includes diesel, would be reduced from 14.3 cents per litre to 9 cents per litre.
