Ford Says He'll Follow Dr. Moore's Recommendations on Lifting Mask Mandates

Decision could come in mid-March.

Premier Doug Ford says a decision on whether or not to lift mask mandates in public places will be made based on the advice of Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health.

"I’ve been accused of being the most cautious leader in North America when it comes to this pandemic" the Premier told reporters during a press briefing in Whitby today. "I’m going to continue being cautious. But we also have to move forward, we have to get back to normal. And that’s why I’m going to follow the advice of [Chief Medical Officer of Health] Dr. Moore."

Yesterday, Dr. Kieran Moore told reporters that his team would begin reviewing mask mandates in public spaces, including schools, during the second or third week of March.

Moore also noted should a recommendation to end the mandate be made, he hoped vulnerable community members would continue to mask up.
