Fort Erie Growth Catches Eye of Province

City staff say investment in health care over the years impresses government, unlike other municipalities its size

Appears the provincial government is impressed with Fort Erie's investment on health care.

The town's Manager of Strategic Initiatives Bev Bradnam tells us Ministry of Health officials at the recent Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference were in awe of their presentation that showed about $2.7-million invested since 2004.

"A town in a small, lower tier municipality doesn't usually have health services anywhere in their budgets, or in their forecasts, or even in their strategic plans.  This is one of council's key pillars, in our plan.  We've also put money into the community health and wellness reserve every year."

She also pointed to about $3-million to the South Niagara hospital build, also money for the new long-term care home in Fort Erie, and a 10 bed hospice.

She also had conversation with Economic Development Minister Vic Fideli, who told them he plans to visit, including Airbus's 40th anniversary next month.

He also told them about a new online portal about industrial sites.  "Demographic data and provincial resources... he really encouraged us to make sure we got on all our private and public industrial lands, even some that aren't serviced yet, just get them on this portal, because that's where the province looks."

She feels Fort Erie is getting more attention now that in previous years.
