Mayor Jim Diodati says University of Niagara Falls is connected to global group, a graduate opened medical clinic
Future growth of Niagara Falls is exciting for the mayor, helped by the University of Niagara Falls and a new medical clinic on Queen Street.
Jim Diodati tells us a doctor who set up there recently is a graduate of Global University Systems, or GUS, which the university if a subsidiary of.
He says GUS has law, engineering and medical schools around the world, including Vancouver.
All medical graduates from there end up in the US. "Well, just recently, one of their graduates that was practicing in California, came back to Canada and is set up on Queen Street in the old CIBC building. The doctor is now set up there, and he already has 3,000 patients."
He adds GUS wants growth for the university. "As a matter of fact, I just had our very first downtown committee of council meeting, and all the businesses are commenting on the amount of students in the downtown, and how the vibe in downtown is really changing, already... and we're thrilled about it."
He adds the city is working on ways to attract more youth to the downtown.
The mayor says the University is prepared to add another 1,000 students next year.
