Health Canada Greenlights Pfizer's Bivalent COVID-19 Booster

Canadians aged 12 and older can gbe given Pfizer's bivalent COVID-19 booster shot.

Health Canada has greenlit Pfizer's bivalent COVID-19 booster for people aged 12 and older.

The new shot targets the BA.4 and BA.5 strains of the Omicron variant.

Health Canada had previously authorized Moderna's bivalent COVID-19 booster, making this the second bivalent vaccine to be authorized.

The shot can be given three to six months after a second dose or the most recent booster shot.

Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones says the province is working with public health units to make sure that shots can be administered as soon as they are received from the federal government.

The first shipment of the Pfizer bivalent vaccine is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
