Second St. Catharines politician targeted by vandals in less than a week.

The home of St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik was attacked by vandals.

Niagara Regional Police say around 7:45 this morning, they were called to Sendzik's home following reports of spray paint vandalism.

This comes less than a week after a similar episode involving federal Liberal candidate Chris Bittle, who says his vehicle was sprayed with the words "F U Liberal" over the weekend.

Niagara Health President and CEO Lynn Guerriero has released a statement condemning the incidents, saying there is no excuse for this behavior.

"Those who committed these acts should be held criminally responsible. We should also not tolerate the treatment of federal candidates who are being sworn at and threatened while on the campaign trail. Niagara is better than that."

As last night's council meeting, Sendzik expressed outrage over what happened to Bittle, saying such acts are a "poison to democracy."

Officers continue to investigate, and anyone with information on the incident at Sendzik's home is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or the NRP at (905) 688-4111 ext. 1024322.
