We're profiling the Niagara Falls candidates for the upcoming federal election, starting with Green Party candidate Melanie Holm.

The Green Party has selected Melanie Holm as its candidate for the Niagara Falls riding.

Holm is a mother who grew up in the interior of B.C. before moving to Niagara Falls in 2010.

Before joining the Green Party in 2018, she worked in teaching and retail.

Holm says she thinks housing is a big issue going into the federal election.

"I think some people are concerned about being able to buy their first home, and other people are concerned about having a roof over their heads period, being able to pay rent."

She also says she's worried about climate change, both in Niagara Falls and throughout the country.

"We've dealt with so much extreme weather. In British Columbia, we've seen the forest fires. In Niagara, we've been dealing with flooding, hot temperatures, cold temperatures, low water, high water, ice storm...so I think that's become quite apparent to us that the time to act on climate change is yesterday, and we need to get a move on."

Other candidates running in the Niagara Falls riding include Incumbent Conservative Tony Baldinelli, Andrea Kaiser for the Liberals, Peter Taras for the People's Party of Canada and NDP candidate Brian Barker.
