NDP Urging Ford to Stop Corporations From Requiring Minimum Purchase For Rapid Tests

Ontario's opposition demanding the province to stop corporations from forcing people to pay anything for a rapid test.

Ontario's NDP is speaking out following reports that Walmart is forcing a minimum purchase amount in order to receive a COVID-19 test.

According to the retailer's website, rapid antigen tests are available with a minimum grocery pickup order value of $35.

The party is calling for the Ford government to stop all corporations from forcing people to pay anything to get a rapid test.

"What we need is free access to an important health care tool," said NDP Deputy Leader Sara Singh. "Not free-with-minimum-purchase."

Earlier today, Health Minister Christine Elliott announced the Ontario government would distribute 44 million free rapid COVID-19 tests to grocery stores and pharmacies throughout Ontario.
