Wayne Campbell facing health problems
Health problems are forcing a long-time Niagara Falls city councillor to resign his seat, after first winning election in 1985,
Wayne Campbell was honoured at council yesterday, every member wearing a t-shirt in his honour.
Mayor Jim Diodati noted Campbell's passion for helping people with a hand up, not hand out. "But nothing was more important for him, than creating a legacy for his daughter Katey, after her young passing, so young people struggling with addictions, and mental health challenges, could get the support they needed."
The councillor worked to make sure a transitional housing building was put up on Victoria Avenue, it's now named after him.
He has missed a number of meetings because of his health, and Councillor Chris Dabrowski had the t-shirt made with his caricature on the front.
The mayor read 3-slogans on the back of the shirt that Campbell would always say. "Yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery, today's a gift, that's why we call it the present. It doesn't matter what they're saying, as long as they're talking about you. And, you can whip cream, but you can't beat... something else, I'm not going to say it, but it starts with 'sh'."
Council voted to approach the next runner up in the last municipal election, former councillor Vince Kerrio, about replacing him, instead of having a by-election.
