Niagara Health Shutting Down COVID-19 Assessment Centre

Niagara Health says it's closing down COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics, along with it's COVID-19 Assessment Centre

Niagara Health is about to permanently shut down its COVID-19 assessment centre.

The centre, as well as COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics will close on Friday, March 31st.

The organization says COVID-19 testing will be available at select pharmacies in Niagara, and doctors will continue to prescribe Paxlovid.

As well, Remdesivir infusion therapy, which also helps treat COVID-19, will be available in the community.

Niagara Health opened its first assessment centre on March 17th, 2020, at the Niagara Falls site.

Since then over 327,000 swabs have been administered.

Niagara Health notes closing the operations will allow teams to return to their regular work, which will help ease staffing pressures in local hospitals.

After March 31:

  • If a person has symptoms of a respiratory illness, they are encouraged to call their primary care provider if they have one as the first option for guidance and care.
  • If someone develops severe symptoms, they are urged go to their nearest emergency department or call 9-1-1.
