Recognition for 12th consecutive year
The Niagara Region has won an award for its budget presentation.
The Region has been recognized for the 12th year in a row for meeting the highest principles of government budgeting.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award comes from the Government Finance Officers Association.
The award comes as the Region's 2024 budget saw one of the highest tax increases at the Region in recent memory at 7%.
Its 2025 budget process kicks off with a report indicating that without service reductions taxpayers are looking at a possible 8.72% tax hike.
The Region also recently parted ways with their Commissioner and Treasurer Todd Harrison.
