Region getting over $26 million to hire more paramedics and increase ambulance services.
The Niagara Region is getting some money from the province for emergency services.
The region is getting over $26 million through the Land Ambulance Service Grant to support the hiring of more paramedics.
The money will also support wage and cost of living adjustments and general ambulance services in the area.
An additional $817,662 from the Dedicated Offload Nurses Program will be used to help ambulances return out to communities faster, enabling emergency personnel to respond to more 911 calls quickly.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says the money will be a big help towards supporting frontline responders in the area.
"As local MPP, I have been advocating for increased support to our local emergency medical services and offload health care workers. This provincial support will reduce ambulance wait times, allowing paramedics to respond to other emergency calls."
The money is part of a $16.1 million investment the province is making to hire additional nurses and health care staff in 20 communities across Ontario.
