No Charges Laid Against Niagara Officer After Youth's Hand Broken

Teenager diagnosed with a fractured right hand following arrest.

A Niagara Regional Police Service officer isn't facing any charges after the hand of a 14 year old boy was broken in April.

On April 5th, the officer was investigating a reported assault and mischief complaint involving two boys at Frasers Grocery Store on St. Clair Avenue in the Falls.

The suspects were later arrested while playing basketball, but no charges were laid.

The youth in question was left in his mother's care.

On April 15th, the boy's mother brought him to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured right hand.

SIU Director Joseph Martino says there's no evidence to suggest the officer used excessive force or didn't conduct himself lawfully during the incident.
