NRP Determine Online School Threat was Joke

Police were called to Holy Cross Catholic, saying it was attempt at humour gone bad

An urgent appeal from police for everyone, including youth, to understand the serious consequences about making online threats, even if intended as a joke.

At around 10 this morning police showed up at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary on Linwell Road in St. Catharines concerning a threat.

NRP had been contacted by Interpol in Washington, who had been contacted by social media app Snapchat, about someone in St. Catharines posting a threat towards a school, while in possession of a weapon.

Police arrested a 15-year old girl for uttering a threat, but determined it was not credible, that it was an attempt at humour gone bad.

The girl was released without charge, under guidelines of Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act.
