Seventeen charges laid

Seventeen charges have been laid against transport truck drivers following a joint initiative between Niagara Regional Police, the Ministry of Transportation and Ontario Provincial Police.

Yesterday, officers in west Niagara positioned themselves to intercept transport trucks believed to be intentionally bypassing the truck inspection station on the QEW in Vineland by taking back roads.

Vehicles were stopped, inspected and sent to the inspection station for an in-depth mechanical review.

Police say there was also a focus on vehicles causing excessive noise due to defects or modifications.

In addition to the charges, 11 vehicles were taken out of service and four license plates were seized.

Residents can report traffic complaints by calling the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 905-688-4111, option #3, extension #1025555.
