Provincial government investing $71,926 for trained crisis workers, NRP watched pilot project in Niagara
Some provincial money has been handed over to help Niagara Regional police reach those experiencing a mental health crisis.
Almost $72,000 will be used through the Mobile Crisis Response Team Enhancement Grant, for trained crisis workers to help those in need.
Police Chief Bill Fordy says they've seen results of collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association in Niagara, including a pilot project.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says this can make a critical life-saving difference by safely deescalating a crisis.
The province is investing more than $4.5-million to 40 police forces and OPP detachments to Mobile Crisis Response Teams.
