Property Bros Back Housing Plan

They praised St. Catharines council on Monday, for a plan offering up to $80,000 in grants for home additions

Some celebrity power is supporting St. Catharines city council's offer of up to $80,000 in grants to anyone building outside additions to their home for rent.

Property Brothers Drew and Johnathon Scott appeared to council Monday via video, praising the Accessory Dwelling Unit program.

"We've been working for years, on trying to crack that affordable housing nut.  We do believe an ADU program is the future, and we saw your program.  The building partner we have, Axe, was founded in St. Catharines."

Mayor Mat Siscoe was impressed.  "Well, I would say, sir, we don't get celebrities around here very often!"

Council unanimously voted for the city program, partly funded by the federal government.

The Scott Brothers also showed how St. Catharines is inspiring homebuilding.  "We are pooling all of our design resources, all of our construction and engineering teams, to figure out the best possible layouts.  In fact, with your program, our one bedroom units will be covered by over 50% of the cost with your program, so, thank you so much for thinking of creative ways."

The two credited St. Catharines for paving the way across North America to get housing built.
