Niagara Police Services Board votes in new Chair
There's a new Chair at the Niagara Regional police services board.
Member Pat Chiocchio, who's also a regional councillor, won the position over outgoing Chair Jen Lawson by a one vote margin this morning.
"It's a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated group, it really is. I've never been closer to any board than this one, in all my political career, and any boards I've sat on."
Born and raised in Welland, he became a city councillor in 2003, a regional councillor in 2014, and is an active member of a long list of community groups.
Members Bill Steele, Kevin Gibson, and Nyarayi Kapisavanhu voted for him, while Laura Ip and Tara McKendrick voted for Jen Lawson.
Being a regional councillor, he says he meets a lot of people. "I just can't say enough... I mean, I'm really proud to say that I'm from Niagara, when I'm asked where I'm from. The proudness just comes out in me, because they really respect what we do, and that's because of the staff, and this board."
He also expressed appreciation to Chief Bill Fordy and every NRP officer.
Vice Chair Nyarayi Kapisavanhu won another term.
