Province and union for education workers resume talks today
A big day as the Ontario government and provincial education workers try to avoid a strike.
They're back at the bargaining table today, with mediator William Kaplan working with the two sides for a new collective agreement, as he did in 2019.
The union wants annual wage increases of $3.25 per hour to help cover the impact of inflation. It also wants designated Early Childhood Educators for every kindergarten class, and $100 million towards the creation of new jobs.
The Ford government is proposing a four-year deal that involves raises of 2 percent a year for education workers who make less than $40,000, and 1.25 per cent for everyone outside that bracket.
