Dr. Kieran Moore says mask mandates could return.
Ontario's top doctor says the province could have a complicated year due to an increase in COVID-19 cases and the upcoming flu season.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore says if the hospital system becomes strained to a point where the surgical backlog is negatively impacted, he would suggest the government make a recommendation to mask up in some public settings like malls, public transit and post-secondary schools.
Moore also says he hasn't ruled out reinstating some mask mandates if there are further knock off effects from the virus.
Moore notes Ontario is seeing a jump in all COVID-19 indicators, but he's not ready to declare an eighth wave yet.
He is urging reisndets to stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations and get their flu shots.
Starting Monday, Ontarians aged 12 and older can get a bivalent COVID-19 booster shot if they have at least two vaccinations.
