It released a statement, signed by the Chair and Mayors, commending the federal government
A show of unity against American tariffs by the Niagara region.
It released a letter signed by Chair Jim Bradley and 12 mayors, indicating while it's still to early to determine the impact of tariffs, they'll do what they can to support and advocate for local businesses and workers.
They'll keep working with all levels of government, and business groups, but added long-term solutions rest with the federal government.
The letter adds while its clear Canada has entered an economic era of uncertainty, work must continue to eliminate interprovincial trade barriers, increase global diversity, and strengthen partnerships with the US wherever possible.
The Niagara region commends the federal and provincial governments for doing what they could to avoid a trade war.
Niagara's close ties to the US means the impact of these taxes will be felt in a unique way.
The letter adds collaboration will continue with all government and business groups here, but also the State of New York, the Border Mayors Alliance, and Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.
The region says we've been through tough economic conditions before, such as COVID-19, and will push through this.
