Niagara-on-the-Lake council considering all options, for kayaks, canoes, paddleboats
Niagara-on-the-Lake council is looking at installing a small watercraft launch at Riverbeach Park.
This has been the town's Dock Area Master plan since 2015.
Set up would cost $80,000, and be used for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.
Councillor Wendy Cheropita is all for it. "Right now that whole area looks like an eyesore, with the fence around it, it's not a pretty site. There are a lot of kayakers and canoers that have come to us, pleading for a place where they can park their cars."
Council voted to defer, in order to get more information on floating docks as well as other options
That was due to concern from Councillor Gary Burroughs, who felt building on the rock base would be safer than a floating dock.
Councillor Erwin Weins spoke to that floating dock. "There is floating dock that's out there. Now whether we own it or not, is something else we want to look into. Hopefully the one that was originally there, we own it, we can get it back, that's one of the things we look into."
Also part of consideration is putting paid parking back in place to pay for usage of the dock area and launch.
