Council will meet next week to discuss proposed Reptilia location at Fairview Mall.
St. Catharines City Council is holding a meeting next Monday to discuss allowing a reptile zoo to operate in Fairview Mall.
Current bylaws restrict some of the reptiles that would be part of the proposed Reptilia location, including some venomous snakes.
While city staff have recommended allowing the business to operate in the former IKEA space at the mall, animal welfare organizations such as Niagara Action for Animals, Zoocheck Inc., and the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society have spoken out against the move, citing public safety concerns.
Reptilia, which has locations in Vaughn and Whitby, claims over three-quarters of its animals are rescues
