St. Catharines Councillor Dies

Mayor Mat Siscoe says Carlos Garcia will be sorely missed

It is a sad day for the City of St. Catharines, with the passing of one of its councillors.

Mayor Mat Siscoe says Port Dalhousie representative Carlos Garcia had died, while serving in his 3rd term.

He was also a regional councillor for St. Catharines, as well as advocate for seniors, parking, and the budget chair, among many other issues.

The mayor also says the councillor was always prepared, never let a question go unanswered, and was an integral part of city council.

The two men joked that while they didn't always agree with one another, they found areas of common ground.

Siscoe also says when he was elected mayor, he needed someone he trusted as budget chair.  Deputy mayor Bill Phillips suggested Carlos Garcia, and Siscoe felt Garcia was the only person for the job.

Councillor Garcia was also very helpful to our newsroom, always more that willing and helpful to provide interviews on a whatever topic he could.
