State of Region Address Targets Tariffs

Chair Bradley also spoke about Niagara's economy, tourism, and homelessness

The trade war with the US government was the first target of Niagara's regional chair in his State of the Region address yesterday.

Jim Bradley spoke to a packed house in Niagara Falls, which included American and Belgian guests..

He pointed out there is nothing worse than uncertainty for business, which these tariffs bring, and asked the Canadian stereotype of "politeness" be maintained with American neighbours.

He also focused on Niagara's economy, noting the massive investment of Asahi Kasei in Port Colborne, and its battery plant.

There was also an 11% growth in local tourism.

As for doctor recruitment to Niagara, he gladly pointed out 26 new doctors came here last year.

On homelessness, Bradley pointed out while the problem appears daunting, last year 991 people were helped from emergency shelter to housing.
