Town reviews its cannabis legislation policy
The Town of Fort Erie is recommending some changes to cannabis production.
Following a review of their cannabis legislation policy, council is recommending that commercial cannabis production only be permitted indoors.
Other suggestions include prohibiting outdoor storage, requiring a minimum distance from sensitive land uses, and not allowing commercial production within a dwelling.
The Town is also updating its Zoning By-law to permit two types of cannabis production: Licensed Cannabis Facilities and Dedicated Medical Growth of Cannabis.
The definitions state that production can only occur inside a greenhouse or a fully enclosed building.
In the fall, a formal Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment and Site Control By-law Amendment will be announced to recommend provisions in areas such as parking, setbacks, security and storage.
Public consultations will occur as the proposed amendments are considered.
