Trudeau Releases Details of Affordability Plan

Plan includes boost to the GST tax credit.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has released details of a three-pronged approach to tackle affordability issues for low to modest income families.

During a press briefing today, Trudeau said the Liberal are moving forward with the first phase of a national dental care plan.

The Canada Dental Benefit will be for kids under the age of 12 who don't have dental insurance and whose families make less than $90,000 per year.

The plan would provide payments of up to $1,300 per child over the next two years.

In addition, a one-time top-up to the Canada Housing Benefit was also announced.

As well, renting families who earn less than $35,000, or renting individuals who make less than $20,000, will get a one-time benefit of $500 if they spend at least 30 percent of their income on rent.

Meanwhile, Canadians who receive the GST benefit will see their tax credit double for a six month period.

The government says about 11 million individuals and families will receive a boost through the increase to the GST benefit.
