Niagara's recycling facility is about to get a $500,000 upgrade.
Regional Council approved the funding last night; which will help build, supply and install a new drum feeder.
But the Ford Government also announced changes to the the Blue Box Program yesterday.
Officials will develop a producer responsibility framework over the next year.
The first group of municipalities will begin the transition on January 1st, 2023. Producers should be responsible for all blue box services across Ontario by December 31st, 2025.
Region CAO Ron Tripp says there's two-year return on investment, which will allow Niagara to recover revenues during the transition period.
